TBI Rehabilitation and Medical Adjustment Group Therapy
These open enrollment, process-oriented groups are designed to focus on addressing the broad issues of adjustment often faced by patients and their families when in the process of recovering from a major injury or heath concern. The groups are 90 minutes in length and employ a psychoeducational model – informing the membership of what to expect over the course of a normative rehabilitation and recovery, as well as addressing risk factors and how best to handle those behavioral and/or emotional reactions which are less common and more concerning. The groups afford members the opportunity to experience universality, which are the benefits found in sharing one’s experiences, profiting from the experiences of others, and feeling connected to individuals and families facing similar circumstances.
Spinal Cord Stimulator
Medicare, as well as most other insurance companies and third party payers, require a screening exam prior to spinal cord stimulator surgery. The goals of these screenings are to ensure that patients have realistic expectations about their implant, as well as to determine if any co-existing and/or treatable psychological conditions exist which may interfere with a successful outcome
Neuropsychological Assessment
For adults, neuropsychological tests are used to identify specific brain related problems such as neurodegenerative conditions (e.g., dementia, movement disorders, autoimmune disorders), stress-related conditions, learning disorders (e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD), and thinking or memory disturbances related to an injury or illness such as TB! or stroke. The evaluation results are used to help diagnoses a particular disease, guide treatment planning, and to help rehabilitate existing impairments.

Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy (CRT)
Truly interdisciplinary, this program begins with a neuropsychological evaluation followed by co-occurring rehabilitation psychology and speech-language therapy. Rehabilitation psychology helps the patient develop compensatory mechanisms to improve cognition and restructure their life so as to improve functionality, works with families to teach them how to best interact with their loved one, and helps the patient cope with their medical condition and any coexisting psychological issues. At the same time, speech language therapy focuses on improving thinking in-session, with a particular focus on the areas of the brain identified as problematic on the neuropsychological assessment. The team meets twice a month, ensuring quality communication and that the team’s goals line up with the patients desires.
